His passion was evident, and his horses were cared for impeccably. They performed and carried themselves with confidence.

During Billy's impressive career, one thing he struggled with was finding appropriate nutrition to support the amazing athletes in his barn. He was frustrated with inconsistent and low-quality feed options available on the market at the time. Billy decided to take matters into his own hands and develop a feed that met his expectations.

Billy Allen Horse Feed was born out of necessity, passion, and a desire to provide the very best for his equine partners. What started as small batches of feed in the round-top for the horses in his barn quickly turned into something more. Soon, clients and competitors alike noticed the impressive appearance and performance of the horses Billy was training, and everyone wanted a piece of his nutrition program.

In 1980, the mill was built to meet the demand the feed created. Soon he was delivering feed throughout the midwest. Known for its consistency and quality, Billy Allen Horse Feed was a staple in many feed rooms. It was an easy choice for many horse owners. Knowing it was produced by a horseman himself (one who expected the best for his animals) gave them confidence in choosing it for their horses, as well.

Business thrived for Billy, and soon, he added two other feeds to his program and bagged the highest quality whole oats he could get his hands on. Very particular about the quality of raw ingredients, he only sourced the best. This commitment to quality was evident in the feeds he produced, and the results were unmistakable. Billy and his family continued to run the mill until June of 2019 when they decided it was time to finally retire.

The new owners of the Billy Allen Horse Feeds brand, Jim and Carmen Miller, are lifelong horse owners who are passionate about their desire to bring uncompromising quality feeds to horse owners. Knowing the importance of nutrition and its role in equine health and performance prompted them to hire Performance Horse Nutrition to develop new and modern feeding solutions.
